Its a Crazy World Out There

Many people are upset that the recent events in Israel have not been given enough coverage in the media. As far as the Itamar massacre goes, i think without a doubt the earthquake in Japan had an effect on coverage of that tragedy. However, it's a shame that such a tragic event was not given the attention it surely warranted. With so much chaos going on in the world these days, it isn't reasonable to expect the Itamar massacre or the bus bombing in Jerusalem to receive complete attention. As a Jew and a supporter of Israel it saddens me when tragedy in Israel isn't fully recognized. However, i understand that it's a big world out there and other events that are happening such as the earthquake and it's aftermath in Japan, the conflict in Libya, and the current revolutions in the Middle East are going to take attention away from events in Israel.

  1. I agree with you that there are many issues going on in the world right now and it is understandable that Israel is not headline news amongst all these other uprisings and natural disasters. However, I think it is a problem when the death of Elizabeth Taylor is headline news on the same day as a terrorist attack in Israel. I also think it's a problem how the media almost belittles the terrorist attacks in Israel.

  2. It is very tough for us, as Jews, to be completely honest about this matter. Perhaps there has been enough coverage and we simply want more. Personally, I sometimes ask myself if there would ever be enough coverage regarding situations in Israel. It is simply important to understand the bias and solidarity we have towards Israel.

  3. Joey,
I thought the same thing on the day of the tragedy in Itamar. From an objective perspective, it definitely was "small news."

And from the media's perspective, the way Israel jumped to politicize the attack definitely was old news.
